The Future of CDM…

The Junior Members of Carolina Dance Masters, Inc., are a distinct group of students aged 13-19 who seek to continue their dance education, with the goal to become future members of Dance Masters of America, Inc.  Providing a fun and educational atmosphere, the CDM Jr Members are encouraged to further their studies in dance.  They develop positive social relationships, while learning about the DMA organization through an established curriculum and by volunteering at various Chapter 15 events.  Only students of a CDM Member in good standing are eligible for this program.

The Junior Members of Carolina Dance Masters, Chapter 15 are a distinct group of students aged 13-19 who seek to continue their dance education, with the goal to become future members of Dance Masters of America, Inc. As a student-led organization, the junior members are governed by a board of officers elected by  their peers.  During the fall, any returning member in good standing can indicate their intention to run for one of four officer positions- President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.  Voting concludes at the CDM Fall Convention in Greensboro, NC.

Who are the CDM Junior Members?

  • The Carolina Proteges began in 1968, as an idea of Pegge Lee, Nancy Kitchen, and Beale Fletcher. The Proteges started as a group with an emphasis on the performing end of dance and has now evolved into our Junior Membership program, which has an emphasis on education.

  • CDM still has one of the only active Junior Membership programs!

  • Represented by 9 CDM studios.

  • The Junior Member College Scholarship was established in 2020, only eligible to CDM Junior Member seniors in high school.

Fun Facts

“Growing up in the CDM Organization, I was introduced to the Junior Member program at a young age. I always admired what they were doing, whether it be fundraising or performing on the banquet stage! When I was finally the age to become a member, there was no doubt that I wanted to join! Now, looking back at my years apart of the Junior Members, I am so thankful that I was able to meet and form relationships with others across all of the studios apart of CDM! It made coming to Convention and PAC weekends that much more exciting, because I got to see people who lived all across the state! It no doubt made me a better dancer, by also appreciating all of the hard work that goes into making not only our chapter, but our studios the best they can be!”
